District 14

ONA Districts are geographic areas in which all ONA members participate. ONA members are elected to the ONA House of Delegates from districts. Thus, nurses from different practice settings have the opportunity to serve in the highest policy making body of the association. Bend, Redmond, and Prineville are all part of District 14.

Other functions that the Districts serve are to bring together nurses from a variety of backgrounds and practice settings, provide for community service activities, conduct forums on nursing practice and health care issues, promote the visibility of ONA and of the nursing profession, recruit new members, mentor and provide leadership development for nursing students, participate in political action, communicate with nurses and provide educational opportunities for all nurses.

ONA members typically join the District where they work or live although some areas of the state do not have a District. Members in those areas belong to “District 50” which provides them a vehicle for election to the House of Delegates.

What is ONA District 14?
District 14 is a geographical and political district within Oregon Nurses Association. It is analogous to an Oregon House of Representatives district. The membership is primarily nurses at Bend, Redmond and Prineville hospitals who are represented by ONA for collective bargaining. It also represents all ONA members both RN and APN in Central Oregon.

Why does it exist?
It exists as the entity through which ONA members in Central Oregon have political access to ONA’s Legislative functions, particularly the annual House of Delegates, which determines the goals, direction and functioning of ONA. It is our access to membership in the ONA and the ANA. The UAN membership is through your bargaining unit.

Why should I care?
You pay dues to ONA and to District 14. One dollar a month per member goes to District 14. Currently, the District has over $6000 in its treasury. Your dues money. The district dues have been spent on delegate registration and expenses to ONA conventions, support for the two bargaining units in Central Oregon, educational activities, and newsletters.

Who are the current officers?
An election was held last year and the following were elected, Duke Sells - president, Vacant- vice-president, Joe Sack-Treasurer, Andrea Rombach-Secretary, and - member at large Vacant.  All district seats will be up for election vote this September. Please get involved.

So what?
We can be proud of our local professional association and our members. We have a wide variety of certifications, licenses, experience, needs, and ideas, and we should get together regularly and share with our professional colleagues.
